Today doubts and wild self-questioning swept the area
in reaction to an unforseen action taken by scholastic
administrators. In a sudden burst of inspiration, a
respected teacher boldly closed the windows of the
staffroom at a local high school, and turned on the
air-conditioning, even though July will not begin for
another three days. This move came as a surprise to
the other members of the staffroom, who could be heard
flipping through their calendars anxiously.
“The temperature reached 30 degrees today,” the
teacher was later overheard saying. “It seemed
reasonable to bring it back down to 29, but perhaps my
actions were hasty, my apologies.”
Although the temperature did indeed reach 30 degrees
(31.4 to be exact), the aggressive action has been
challenged. A witness said, “I mean, it’s nice and
cool in here, but was it really worth throwing the
entire schedule into upheaval?”
Another onlooker observed, “There are procedures for
changing plans. They may not be pretty, and they may
involve a little paperwork, but the avenues of
appropriate action exist. They should be careful, it
may be the air-conditioning today, but what will it be
next time? Allowing paper fans in the classroom?
Schoolwide bathing suit-only days? It’s a fine line.”
