Hey Ximena, great to see you back and all the best with the grad school application. Love the new look of yer blog, too.
Would you consider writing about the 'comfort women' issue? The US has been putting a fair bit of pressure on the J g'ment to acknowledge it/ apologise. You'd give an interesting perspective given your understanding of how things (mal)function here.
Just a thought.

WOW! That was some summer that ended your time in Japan.

I was afraid you would never come back to blog. So busy at the moment and don't have time to write long comments but YAY!

Best of luck with being home in America...Maybe you will be like me and be there for a year and then escape back to Japan. Then again maybe not!!

hi ximena, beautiful post.

you didn't babble my ear off at all! i thought that's what i did. sorry i am so vague and stupid and forgot your message. my only excuse (apart from being vague and stupid and forgetful) is that i've got a lot on my mind - namely those pearls of wisdom i apparently imparted to you. i don't remember saying that, but if i did, i reckon you've paraphrased beautifully. i'm not that articulate. feck, i should be heeding that advice methinks.
it's strange. there are so many resources on how to settle into a new country, but so few about how to adjust when going home, even though it's like reverse culture shock. except you've returned to a timewarp where so many things and people are the same, yet things are different.
hang in there, keep writing about what you're going through, and things will gradually get easier as you make decisions and things fall into place.

good luck with it all.

omg, and i loved that story about the WWOOF freak! very good move to hightail it outta there.

Sorry to keep your comment unposted for so long, I have a big spam problem!

Japan has had it's ups and downs. I think I'm ready for a change. I'll be heading back to the states in September.

Aww, thanks. I'm not good at tear-jerkers, so I try for laughs. Tears are the next level of speech giving that I aspire to.

Except I mostly aspire to not giving speeches.

Hope to see you in a few!

great speeches. i felt a bit choked up myself just reading them. good on you for being able to get up there and actually talk in front of a group of people - the very idea of which sends me into a panic attack. it's a big step to be leaving after two years. enjoy the rest of your time in this wacky, yet quite amazing, country.
